Cell Cultivation Under Flow – New Insights and Applications
Certain cells, such as the endothelial cells in blood vessels or renal epithelial cells, are constantly exposed to shear stress in vivo. Experimentally, flow conditioning of the cells is achieved by perfusing medium through cultivation chambers, and by maintaining these flow conditions over a long period of time, lasting from hours, up to days.
This webinar will provide an overview of the function of endothelium as a barrier between the blood stream and the tissue beneath. It will also introduce various perfusion applications and experimental setups. In addition, the physical background of flow systems will be explained, as well as the impact of these factors on cells, regarding morphology, physiology, and function.
